Research Centre in Education and Physical Education

Shri Shivaji Shikshan Prasarak Mandal’s College of Education, Barshi, affiliated to Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University, Solapur, is a premier institution dedicated to teacher education, research, and professional development. Established in 1966 under the visionary leadership of Karmveer Dr. Mamasaheb Jagdale, the institution was founded with the noble objective of preparing competent, committed, and quality teachers to serve the educational needs of rural communities.
The College offers B.Ed. and B.P.Ed. programmes at the undergraduate level, M.Ed. and M.P.Ed. programmes at the postgraduate level, and Ph.D. programme in Education and Physical Education. The institution was initially affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur, and subsequently to Solapur University, now known as Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University, Solapur.
The College has a recognized Research Centre in Education and Physical Education since 2010, providing a vibrant academic environment for advanced research and scholarly activities. The college currently holds an A Grade with a CGPA of 3.04, reflecting its commitment to academic quality and continuous improvement.
The Research Centre conducts a wide range of academic and research-oriented activities throughout the year for Ph.D. research scholars and postgraduate students. These include six-monthly progress reviews, online courses, research methodology workshops, capacity-building programmes, guest lectures, national and international seminars and conferences, and research paper publication activities. These initiatives provide scholars with opportunities to strengthen their research competencies, engage with contemporary educational issues, and disseminate their research findings.

The Research Centre has made a significant contribution to higher education and research. To date, 87 scholars have been awarded Ph.D. degrees in Education, while 3 scholars have been awarded Ph.D. degrees in Physical Education. Overall, 90 scholars have successfully earned doctoral degrees through the Research Centre. The Centre continues to foster a culture of research, innovation, academic excellence, and professional development.

With its rich legacy since 1966, strong commitment to teacher education, recognized research facilities, experienced faculty, and sustained academic activities, the College of Education, Barshi continues to play an important role in developing quality teachers, promoting educational research, and contributing to the advancement of education in rural and wider communities.

Objectives of the Research Centre

The Research Centre in Education and Physical Education of Shri Shivaji Shikshan Prasarak Mandal’s College of Education, Barshi, is committed to promoting a vibrant culture of research, innovation, and academic excellence. The major objectives of the Research Centre are:

To promote a strong research culture in the fields of Education and Physical Education among faculty members, research scholars, and postgraduate students.
To encourage quality and innovative research addressing contemporary educational, social, technological, and physical education-related issues.
To develop research competencies among Ph.D. research scholars and postgraduate students through workshops, training programmes, guest lectures, seminars, and research-oriented activities.
To provide academic and research guidance to scholars at various stages of their research work, including research design, methodology, data analysis, interpretation, and academic writing.
To facilitate interdisciplinary and collaborative research by encouraging interaction among researchers, faculty members, educational institutions, universities, and research organizations.
To organize national and international seminars, conferences, workshops, faculty development programmes, and research-oriented events for knowledge sharing and professional development.
To encourage publication and dissemination of research findings through reputed journals, books, conference proceedings, and other scholarly platforms.
To promote ethical and responsible research practices by emphasizing research integrity, originality, academic honesty, and responsible use of technology.
To encourage the use of ICT, digital tools, and emerging technologies in educational and physical education research.
To monitor and support the progress of research scholars through regular reviews, six-monthly progress assessments, and constructive academic feedback.
To create opportunities for research networking and collaboration with universities, colleges, schools, educational organizations, and professional bodies at regional, national, and international levels.
To undertake socially relevant and need-based research that contributes to the improvement of teacher education, school education, higher education, physical To emerge as a centre of excellence in Education and Physical Education research by promoting quality, innovation, ethical research practices, collaboration, and socially relevant scholarship.
